Convert CSV to QFX

Quicken won't import CSV directly — it needs QFX. Convert your bank CSV to a Quicken-ready QFX file with the right institution headers built in.

For Quicken Classic, Quicken Mac, and Quicken Windows users. Free online — no software to install.

How It Works

1

Upload Your CSV

Bank export, credit card download, PayPal/Stripe export, or any CSV with transaction data. Any column layout works.

2

Auto-Mapped for Quicken

Date, payee, and amount columns detected. INTU.BID, FID, and ORG headers set automatically — no manual lookup needed.

3

Download QFX

Quicken Web Connect file ready for import. File > Import > Web Connect (.QFX) in Quicken Windows or Mac.

Why Quicken Needs QFX — Not OFX, QIF, or CSV

FormatQuicken WindowsQuicken MacKey Limitation
QFXFull supportFull supportNeeds INTU.BID headers
OFXPartialRejectedMissing Intuit headers
QIFSupportedEmpty files onlyNo duplicate detection
CSVMint format onlyRejectedNo standard layout

QFX gives the best compatibility across all Quicken versions. It supports duplicate detection via FITIDs, which QIF lacks.

CSV

What is CSV?

Comma-Separated Values

Plain-text bank export with no Quicken compatibility. Quicken Mac rejects CSV entirely. Quicken Windows only accepts Mint-formatted CSV. Every other CSV layout requires conversion to QFX first.

QFX

What is QFX?

Quicken Financial Exchange

Quicken's proprietary Web Connect format — standard OFX plus Intuit licensing headers (INTU.BID, ORG, FID). The only format Quicken imports reliably on both Mac and Windows without manual column mapping.

Why This Tool

INTU.BID Headers Included

Quicken requires Intuit Bank ID (INTU.BID), ORG, and FID in every QFX file. Missing headers trigger OL-221 "can't verify financial institution." We set them automatically.

No Manual FID Lookup

Other tools (CSVTools, MoneyThumb) force you to find your bank's FID manually. We handle institution identifiers without any input from you.

Auto-Detect Any CSV Layout

Date, Payee, Amount — detected regardless of column names, order, or language. Works with 3-column, 4-column (debit/credit), and payment processor exports.

Ending Balance Calculated

QFX files need an ending balance or Quicken shows incorrect account totals. We calculate it from your transactions automatically.

Mac & Windows Compatible

QFX is Quicken Mac's preferred format — unlike QIF (empty files only) or CSV (rejected). Works identically on Quicken Windows.

PayPal, Stripe & Square Ready

Payment processor CSVs have gross/fee/net columns. We map them correctly so Quicken sees individual transactions, not lump sums.

When to Use This

Bank Dropped Web Connect

Bank of America discontinued QFX downloads (Sept 2025, CC-885). Chase dropped direct connect. Download CSV and convert here — Quicken workflow stays the same.

Quicken Mac CSV Workaround

Quicken Mac doesn't accept CSV at all. Convert to QFX and import via File > Import — it's the most reliable Mac import path.

Payment Processor Imports

PayPal, Stripe, Square, and Shopify export CSV. Convert to QFX so Quicken reads individual transactions with correct dates and amounts.

How to Import QFX Into Quicken

Quicken Windows

  1. Go to File > Import > Web Connect (.QFX)
  2. Select your downloaded .qfx file
  3. Choose which Quicken account to link
  4. Review transactions in the Downloaded Transactions tab
  5. Accept to move them into the register

If double-clicking the QFX file triggers an MSI error (R65 bug), use the File > Import menu instead.

Quicken Mac

  1. Go to File > Import > Bank or Brokerage File (.QFX)
  2. Select your downloaded .qfx file
  3. Map to the correct account
  4. Review and accept transactions

QFX is Quicken Mac's most reliable import format — no empty-file workaround needed like QIF.

Common Quicken QFX Import Errors

OL-221-A "Can't verify financial institution"

The QFX file has a missing or invalid INTU.BID. Quicken calls home to Intuit to verify the bank ID. Our converter sets a valid INTU.BID so this error doesn't occur.

CC-885 error after Bank of America update

BofA discontinued QFX/Web Connect downloads in Sept 2025. Download CSV from BofA instead and convert it to QFX here. Quicken imports it identically.

"Imported 0 transactions" — file accepted but nothing appears

Quicken matched the QFX to the wrong account (or no account). Check that the account number in the file matches your Quicken account, or re-link during import.

MSI installer error when double-clicking QFX file (Quicken R65)

A bug in Quicken R65.15/R65.17 broke file associations on Windows. Import via File > Import inside Quicken instead of double-clicking. Reinstalling Quicken also fixes it.

Account balance incorrect after import

QFX files include an ending balance field. If it's empty or wrong, Quicken shows a mismatched balance. We calculate the correct ending balance from your transactions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

What's the difference between QFX and OFX?

QFX is OFX with Intuit-specific headers (INTU.BID, ORG, FID). Quicken rejects plain OFX files because it can't verify the financial institution without these headers. Our QFX files include them.

Q

Why does Quicken show OL-221 "can't verify financial institution"?

The QFX file is missing or has an invalid INTU.BID (Intuit Bank ID). This is the licensed identifier Quicken uses to verify the source. Our converter sets a valid INTU.BID automatically.

Q

My bank stopped offering QFX downloads — what now?

Bank of America discontinued QFX/Web Connect in Sept 2025 (CC-885 error). Chase dropped direct connect earlier. Download CSV from your bank and convert it here — Quicken imports it the same way.

Q

Quicken says "imported 0 transactions" — why?

Usually a mismatched account number or INTU.BID. Quicken processes the file silently but maps to the wrong account. Ensure the account number in the QFX matches your Quicken account setup.

Q

Does this work with Quicken Mac?

Yes. Quicken Mac imports QFX natively via File > Import. Unlike QIF (empty files only) or CSV (rejected entirely), QFX is Mac's preferred import format.

Q

QFX import broke after Quicken update R65 — is that related?

Quicken R65.15 and R65.17 (late 2025) broke QFX file associations on Windows. The fix: import via File > Import inside Quicken instead of double-clicking the file. Our QFX files work with both methods.

Q

Do I need to know my bank's FID or INTU.BID?

No. Other tools like CSVTools and MoneyThumb require you to look these up manually. We set valid defaults automatically.

Q

MoneyThumb and ProperConvert charge for this. Is it free?

Yes. MoneyThumb CSV2QFX requires a paid desktop license, ProperConvert limits trials to 10 transactions. We convert free online, no install, no signup.

Q

Is my data secure?

Encrypted in transit, processed in memory, never stored. Your CSV is deleted after conversion.
